Covid has reared it’s ugly head once more so I will not be playing this week.  I am being released back into the wild on Monday so will be back next week.  Meanwhile a huge thank you to George for stepping into the breach once more – be gentle with him.    BTW I understand you cannot get Covid online so you are quite safe to read this and play tomorrow.  A good turnout this week with 21 members, so we have 3 – 3balls and 3 – 4balls.  I was tempted to have 7 – 3 balls but with a buggy it would have meant someone walking alone.

Whatever the weather the lunch will go ahead as planned.  Assembly in dining room at 1.15 and Presentation around 1.30.  Food served at 2pm.

 

In the event of a NO BUGGY RULE, there will be the following changes to the draw:

Ted if you are able can you replace Bob Reader in the second group.  If this isn’t possible, then group 2 will have a ghost (see my previous post).

Andy R and George can you replace Ted and Terry in group 3.

Can the last 2 groups be prepared to start earlier to close up the gap left by the missing group.

Everyone be prepared for any other changes I haven’t anticipated and use your common sense.

Mother’s Rainbow.

This is a team game with the 2 best scores to count on each hole.  Everyone plays off their Yellow tee handicap.  Tees will rotate as follows.  Hole 1 – Black, 2 – white – , 3 – yellow, 4 – blue, 5 – red, 6 – orange.  Then repeat the sequence for holes 7 – 12 and 13 – 18.

That’s the easy rainbow bit.

You are also playing a “Mother ball”.  The mother ball scores double points and will rotate between the group. So whoever has the motherball on hole 1 will also have it on 5, 9, 13 and 17.  The others will be mother on 2, 6, 10, 14 and 18.  3,7,11and15.  4,8,12and 16.  Sounds complicated but you just take it in turns.

Usually with a mother ball if you lose it then no one can double their score.  However, if you lose it in this game you can replace it as many times as you wish.  But each time it costs you 3 points.  So if you chose this option write -3 in the margin next to the points column and take these points off your total score at the end.  

 

                                                            Yorkshire Toss

                                                Following my “success” with the recent “Highland Fling” (See Sam) I have decided to introduce (get my revenge) with the Yorkshire Toss. Everyone can have 1 Yorkshire Toss during the round.  Unlike the Fling this is a FREE shot and can be used any time.  The procedure is as follows:  The “Yorkshire Tosser” can pick up the ball and throw it towards their intended target.  However, they MUST have their back to the target so must throw the ball over their shoulder, through their legs or around their waist etc.

 

If you are a team of 3 players then you will take turns at being the “Ghost” playing 2 balls on the hole.

 

Entry fees will be €6 as normal all of which will be paid in prize money to the 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd teams and NTP on 6st and 16^th holes.

 

You may want to read this again or better still print it out and take it with you.

 

This is a fun game so – Christmas Hats and Jumpers at your discretion.

A good turnout this week with 19 runners and 4 riders.

If anyone has trophies from last years presentation could you now please return them ASAP to me for this years  prizegiving.  Also if anyone is able to donate prizes (Bottles of spirits/wine, sleeves of golf balls etc) for this years presentation that would be gratefully received. 

Members were asked to contribute €10  (perhaps a little more for those who have not played very much this year) towards the cost of the dinner to offset the shortfall in the social fund.  Please bring this tomorrow.

  Some info about next week.  This will be a fun game so xmas jumpers and silly hats etc are at your discretion.  The draw will be “seeded” but still largely random.  It looks like we have 26 playing so we will need to squeeze in an extra teetime.  Following the game we will move to our tables at approx. 1.30 (possibly a little earlier depending on the length of my speech – hearing aids and ear plugs optional).  We will then do the presentation for the days game followed by the prizegiving.  Dinner will be served at 2pm.
